Studio Museum in Harlem

or continued inspiration I have been visiting exhibits and I came across the Studio Museum in Harlem. It is a modern look on African-American art and artist. The space is very modern chic and the high ceilings of the exhibit show create a room of endlessness. My favorite feature was the first artist right when you enter. The artist is Zwelethu Mthethwa and he created these five foot glossy highly saturated photos. It reminded me of all of my travels from the past year. The museum is free on Sundays and it is a great trip to make on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

A look into the Future

Levi Strauss & Forum for the Future

I am getting ready for working on my collection and my teacher brought to my attention an amazing website. I love things that are interactive and straight to the point and this is a great look into the future of fashion. Levi Strauss created four scenarios that could happen for fashion in year 2025. There are a lot of great ideas and exciting new development that the company has predicted.

Fashion on Broadway

The next thing that you need to do this summer is walk down Broadway between 34th street and 42nd Street. Parsons has teamed up with designers to showcase designs created from unconventional objects. My glass dress should be out there! Maybe ill just roll it on out there one day! But it is truly a great treat to see long side all the traffic, people sitting on the benches for there lunch break and tourist amazed snapping photos. So go on over and once again get inspired.

Kenneth Cole (My Fav). If you could not tell this was Kenneth Cole then u need to rethink your eye for design. He loves making using black and grey!

This one was great the designer used every inch of the dressform to glue and sytle a great design.

A student from New School Parsons who used stones, yarn wrapped sticks to create the crinoline cage and wood chips to create the body. Which were all glued to the dressform.

Brooklyn Flea

Brooklyn Flea is a great organization that promotes the small designers out there to sell there goods along with the vintage stylist who know how to find a gem out of the old. I attended the past weekend to their new location at the Old Clock building on Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn New York. As a kid I always went to this building to get my teeth checked and tighten those braces of mine but who would have known that there would be such a large open space behind those big brass doors walking into the bank. Now the Brooklyn Flea took over Saturdays and Sundays. They have designers, good finds and art and food to feed that hunger after a long day of shopping. I took a look and found a great hat with a 1950's flare I am going to wear this hat everyday!

Also I tried some wonderful fish tacos which is located in the back where you can sit and enjoy the treats. Here are some pictures of the event!

The Last Emperor: Valentino

There is a new design film coming out in a theater near you. The Last Emperor is a film created during the last two years of Valentino's career as a designer. As many of you might know Valentino retired this past year after serving the fashion world for over 60 years.

The film goes through how he started out in design and follows him to the last show of his career. It is going to be shown in New York , Los Angeles, San Fransico and Chicago but all are sold out due to the fact many showings are expensive and are for members only. the film crew is going to have more showings throughout the year and are looking forward to spreading the film around the world as they have already in many film festivals.

Alexander McQueen has a new low price line with Target called MCQ. It is a great addition but at Target for a limited amount of time so you need to get on it. You can simply go to Target.com and select your items and an extra bonus, free shipping once you spend over $50.00, which will not be hard to accomplish. Well guess where I am going on Saturday? This is my dream come true. A two floor antique heaven. Located in a car garage that is vacated for the weekend to house vintage vendors who only sell items from the sixties and earlier.

The garage supplies items including, jewelry, clothing, accessories, household items. A little bird told me that the earlier costumers get the best items and also to not be surprised if you bump into a famous new yorker. I will fill you in when I get my items on Saturday. I can not wait.

Some one else has expressed BowLovelyness, the latest release from Pharell. It is a sweater with a bow accent that comes in a variety of different colors, including pink. This is truly on my wish list I would rock this shit all the time. Check it out on his blog. He even has stepped up the game with exclusive Ice Cream bow ties, they have diamond and money signs printed on them. Yeah so watch out fellas bows are not only for the ladies.

Back to School Shopping

...all I can say is this summer when by waaaayyyy toooo fast. I basically worked like a robot and the days passed really fast. But I meet a lot of cool people and had a lot of fun. I wanted to let you guys get the chance to get some good steals before returning to the books. 

I bumped into this cosmetic paradise and needed to share this treasure trove with everyone. Cosmetic Warehouse has everything  you need to replenish that empty makeup case. This store holds mainly Revlon and Almay; bronzer$3.00, cover up $3.00, eyeliner$3.00, lip gloss $.99-$2.00 and basically everything but what caught my eye was the assortment of .99 cent Nail Polish. I had to grab a bunch, but the best ones I picked up was a vivid magenta and a tangy tangerine.

The next amazing discovery was in the realm of accessories. I am so old school when it comes to accessories, no  not 80's old skool, I go waaayyyyy back I love the 50's and 20's. Clothes then had more of a  purpose, I love to dress up and the ladies of that era always dressed there best. But back to the news at hand my new discovery. It is a small and almost hard to notice store but when you enter its a haven for accessory lovers. I was amazed at the variety of vintage jewelry that was there. Prices range from $5.00-$30.00 earrings and $20.00 necklaces, now that is hard to find prices like these when it comes to vintage. Oh yeah and the employees there are so funny and helpful.

Please check this out it the the most inspiring show I have seen on a while. It was a CNN special:Black in America that focused on the lives of black men and women in America. It showed the past and how that past has continued into our present. You will watch the special and realize that these things might be occurring in your life. Internship with Kimera

OK sorry that is has been so long since I have posted anything new. I have been extremely busy, but yet again who isn't these days. Well first I forgot to tell you I am working at an INTERNSHIP this summer. Yes!!! after the long struggle and search. I sew at KIMERA, a culturally blended bridal design store. Which is located at 366 ATLANTIC AVENUE which means BROOKLYN.  My boss, YVONNE CHU focuses on creating hand-made custom silk dresses for brides, bride maids, flower girl and special occasions. It also sells silk pillows,wraps and  designer bags. The COLORS are out of this world if your looking for a dress that will be a head turner this is the place. I have also started to SELL MY JEWELRY there. I currently sell two pieces there. Along with many other local designers from Brooklyn. I currently sew sashes,ties and pillows.
