Here is what is to come...in the upcoming months. During the Spring I created two designs in conjunction with my red carpet design. I have created a ready-to-wear spin on the dress and also used the same inspiration of Charles Worth for the second dress made of glass. Styled and studio photos will come soon but until then enjoy!

Throw Back

This is a throw back video of me making my first dress ever! Which happened to be my prom dress I don't know who I thought I was but I really did not know what I was doing. Looking back on it now I made the outside look great but the inside of the dress was all to unfinished edges and uneven seam allowances. I wanted to create a replica YSL gown and some what succeeded. I did all the beading at the neckline myself and just tried to work it out. This is when I knew I had a true love for creating.

Here is my next leap into the world of design! I entered a contest to design my future. If I went on an interview this is what I would love to wear. The jacket is soft pin strip charcoal with white paper thin strips and the skirt is a tweed black and white. I am going to make this interview outfit for all the non-conformist in the crowd!

Footloose University of Delaware

I was very busy this semester as you might have already realized. I took on a lot of challenges. One of the many was to be the costume designer for a student theatre group at the University of Delaware called HTAC. This year they hosted the production of Footloose something I was very familiar with. I worked with 30 people who needed a variety of clothing to fit their character and style. It was a struggle to figure everything out I truly do not know how I completed this task, I do not know how Patricia Fields does it for Sex and the City. After this I realized maybe this is not my favorite thing so I am going to stick to the designing but if someone needs a stylist for a play I guess I could do it!

Saw an Anteater and it inpsired me to create this sketch. A combination of charcol, color pencils and black pins in a variety of sizes.

Finding Inspiration from Charles James features at the current FIT exhibit

American Beauty. I created this dress for Zoe Saldana for the 2010 Academy Awards.

I choose to accent her long neck with a heart shaped neckline, boned bodice.

I used green Indian silk, off-white polyester chiffon, metallic feather polyester (Tracy Reese) and a small accent of hand dyed rooster feathers.

If anyone knows Zoe let me know!

Trashy

On Monday 11th I and my club, The Garment District entered a garment into the first ever RECONSTRUCTION fashion show. The University of Delaware is all about Sustainable fashion and for the first ever fashion week at the University of Delaware hosted by the Fashion Merchandising club. This Fashion week was a combination of successful events, including two movie screenings, a clothing swap, an embellishment workshop, and two fashion shows. 

The club focus for the month was recycling and we wanted to make something that would cost absolutely no money and come from something that people waste all the time. After some research we decided that Plastic Bags would the the best and most amazing thing we could possible use. So here are all the picture of our final project. The bottom of the skirt is braided while the top is all melted plastic bags. We won first place and it was a great win for the team.

Final Project

Here is my final design project for the Fall 2008 semester. It was not an easy task to complete. I was sewing for 2 and a half weeks straight.

Those two weeks consisted of a lot of soda, movies, way too much music, and sleeping in the sewing lab. Yes! I slept there, sad I know.

All of the students had to pick a inspiration,create 10-12 sketches, create a design board, make patterns for both our skirt and jacket and of course sew it by the end of the semester.

The jacket is made a brown tweed, blue wool and light blue chiffon. The closures are hook and eyes that close in the front. The objective was to get a tight fit and combining my ideas without over doing it. The slashes of fabric on the sleeves a pieces of wool cut on the bias, so there are raw edges to contrast with the rawness of winter, which was the season that I was designing for.

The skirt is made of multiple layers of tulle both cream and light blue, with a small skirt lining underneath. Yes! We had to have linings in both pieces which was also a challenge because I had so many facings. I was a great experience but you can not imagine how many movies I watched during those weeks and I had to study for finals I basically did not sleep. But yet again I'll sleep when I am dead because look what happens when I don't.

After such a ruff week which consisted of: A half notched collar jacket, a design storyboard, Costume history test, illustration storyboard and somewhere in there I ate. Well this is what made have an all night-er two days in a row. As you can see I was going crazy.I know all of you fashionistas have experienced this.

I was asked to complete a jacket and skirt from an inspiration found at the FIT museum in New York. I found inspiration in a bustling period piece. I used this garment and designed three ensembles and created a design board.

All of the students we expected to complete the same task here are the boards that they completed. Everyone had different inspiration and through them their design aesthetic shined through. To the left is my board.

HALLOWEEEEEENNN!!

Halloween!!! For a college student we no longer have mom and dad to buy us a cute custom to go trick-or-treating we have to go buy our own. So the next best thing from Party City is the thrift store, your imagination and creativity. Check out these handmade costumes for this Halloween. Last year my roommate and I were Shanayna and Keylolo so it was really hard to top last years performance. Well we did it with Lisette's Designs. I sketched out an idea and created these one of a kind Ketchup and Mustard costumes. And check out french fries made by Jene another fashion major at UD. Oh yeah and we found our hotdog at the end of the night. What will we do next year!!

Plaid Jacket Project

Fashion Flat Pattern: Plaid Jacket Design

Now that I am a sophomore as a designer we are being to develop 

our design asthetic . So we were challenged to create a kimono jacket. For this project it was similar to my favorite show Project Runway, hint I was a girl version of my homeboy Christian. We were all paired up to learn how to work with other people. The class mission was to design a plaid kimono jacket and all of the plaids had to match, this was the hardest part. I own a lot of garments made of plaid and let me just tell you, I appreciate them so much more. My partner was Meghan Thorne and we both decided on a design of a simple kimono jacket and added a mix-match plaid scarf which was detachable with snaps so it could be worn with or without the scarf.  We worked well together and as you can see we did not have any Keith and Terri moments and completed the jacket successfully. I can not wait to wear this jacket especially since it is starting to get cold lol.

The rest of my peers knocked out the assignment as well. Above are the designs of the other Fashion Design and Apparel Majors at the University of Delaware. The green and yellow plaid jacket was designed and constructed by Jine Takahashi and Lauren Gollicker. They created a mock wrap jacket with a vent and chevron on the back. I love the angled gold buttons, it give it a special pop. The next jacket was created and constructed by Emily Meres, Jackie Zaffarano and Catilin Kane. They created a cowl neck jacket and changed the traditional kimono. The following gray jacket added a Chanel flavor to a kimono, with the collar and fitted style. The last jacket was created my Ashelea Glading and Kelsey Williams who took there jacket into the fall season by adding leather details, toggles and  pom poms. Everyone made it work!!!
